We have what we loose

Sometimes, when we are really mad or angry, stop and think. Is it really worth your energy to be angry? Anger won't do you any good anyway, it's just a temporary pain-killer.

When I was watching Idol Gives Back, I was really touched by what we can do as a person, a human to help another. Big stars took part in the show just to help children in Africa who are starving. For us, many things are taken for granted. The availability of food, the ability to read, the knowledge of money......many of them DO NOT know all these things, things that if we were without, we would have been considered "special".

However, the truth remains. They just aren't exposed to all these we consider basics. We only realize what we have when we loose them. Only then, we would know what we have, not what we are without. There's a quote that goes like this - when the power of love overcomes the love of power, only then the world will know peace. *random*

Anyways, I just felt like sharing.

What about now,
What about today,
What if you're making me, more than I was meant to be.......
......before it's too late

14th April 2008

From an outing in the evening, to what's supposed to be -just-another-day-passed, now things have just turned ugly.... I'd like to compare many thing son a scale. These are the legends:

Outing with friends - positive side of scale
Normal day - 0 (neutral)
Bad day - negative side of the scale

Can imagine?
Anyway, forget all the supposed-to-be s. Here's how I spent my birthday.

Woke up in the morning. Went online. Received a few more birthday messages. Mum and Dad at work. Bro at home, sick. High fever. At first, I thought it was just normal fever and he'll wake up feeling better. However, his fever which was acquired from Sunday, lasted and not just lasted, it went overboard.

I sponged him, fed him, hydrate him, and so on. My Mum DID brought him to see a doctor at 1am in the morning but his temperature is still 38.8. He couldn't stand it anymore, so my Mum decided to take a half-day leave to bring him to Putra Hospital (formerly known as Southern Hospital).

As it was lunch time, our regular doctor(including me during childhood), Dr. Zainal was out till 2.30pm. We brought him to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department first to get him a place to rest and also take his weight, blood pressure....etc. etc.

My Mum called Dr. Zainal, telling him our condition. He agreed to rush back, so my Bro was then brought up to his clinic at 3rd floor. Checks, checks and more checks. Virus in the end, but a nasty one, so he suggested that my Bro be warded and given drips.

He took some blood to test for other possible causes(hopefully, no dengue). I decided to put up a night there with my Bro and Mum. Luckily, I have my phone with me or I'll die of boredom. I guess people are just too busy and caught up with their own stuff to chat. Besides, phone bills aren't cheap. Don't blame them.

It was a rough night, really. My Mum and I shared this unoccupied bed beside my Bro's. But in the end, my ever loving Mum slept on the chair to give me more space. Thank you so much,or I wouldn't be blogging now when she's having her beauty sleep.

I couldn't help but think to myself. What a birthday. But, I'm not complaining. I'd rather miss a 100 more birthdays than to abandon my Brother.

Looking on the bright side, there can never be a more perfect postponing. Cause I won't be able to attend my birthday outing if I didn't already postpone it. So, yeah. No troubling others.

I'm now taking a break. So is my Mum. My Dad is taking over the shift now. I really wish he'll recover ASAP. Another lucky thing is today's a holiday for Malaccans. That's why I love my birthday cause the next day is always a holiday. That is if you're in Malacca.

That's all for now. I think I'm gonna need some sleep myself too. *yawns*

In Retrospect

If I had the chance to do it all over again, to turn back the hands of time--back to those days when I was barely eighteen and fresh out of Form 5--would I still have chosen the same path?

Truth is, I do not know. I cannot say much because nothing seemed to have been pre-planned by me or my parents. All I knew at that time was that I detested Math, Add Math, and any numerical and statistical subjects ever existed. My love for the English Language grew in proportion to my extreme dislike for numbers. And for the record, peeps, by the time I was in Form 3, nothing was more certain than the fact that I would never be able to appreciate, what more to love, the happy trio of Biology, Chemistry and Physics; that was why I gleefully avoided enrolling into the Science stream even though I scored straight A's in PMR.

It's a wonder I could scrape through with a 4B for my SPM Add Math and Accounting, considering the highest score I had ever achieved for Add Math throughout my entire Form 4 and Form 5 (prior to SPM) was a 56--yes, a dismal, disgraceful 56%--and that was made possible only after having worked my butt off for the SPM trial examination. I was thankful I did not fail!

Till this day, my greatest regrets are not having the guts to drop Add Math, and not having the courage to take up English Literature for my SPM. Believe it or not, the trauma of having to endure 2 whole years of Add Math still plagued me in the form of recurring nightmares during my first semester in my former university.

Ah. Those were the days--the untold agony, the mounting anxiety over uncharted territories of my future. My undergraduate days in UTM still remain fresh in my memory--because that was the place where I learned to make true friends throughout 5 years. Those were the people that journeyed with me into adulthood, right from our days as bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed first-year undergrads till our last year as jaded final-year seniors in 2006.

I can hardly believe I'm reaching the end of my journey as a student now. It's even harder to believe that I have been battling bouts of homesickness in a foreign land for exactly 20 months in a row. What is the difference between life as an undergrad and that of a Master's student, you may ask? Having gone through almost seven years of tertiary education, all I can say is this: the trick is to keep moving.

Keep working even though there may be days when you just feel like giving up and burning all your lecture notes and lead a carefree life where all you would have to worry about is what to eat and what to wear and where to party. Keep pressing on even when you feel yourself losing grip and getting disillusioned about whether or not all those late-night crammings and tedious, long hours of research-writing would have any bearing on your new future in the working world (which is a whole new ball game altogether).

It's simple; the keyword here is persistence. Nothing in life comes easy, and life will never be as smooth-sailing as you want it to be. Rather the pain of discipline than the pain of regret--because then when you have reached the end of your journey as a student for real, the fruits of your labor will taste so much sweeter, knowing that you have done your best and given your all.

They are........FRIENDS!!!!!

True friend scolds like a DAD..
Cares like a MOM..
Teases like a SISTER..
Irritates like a BROTHER..
And finally loves U more than a LOVER.

Idol fans pick Archuleta

This would definitely be a boost to Nicholas. The Star today reported that :

American idol fans say baby-faced David Archuleta will win the No. 1 television show's current competition, even though they picked rival David Cook as the most talented performer, an E-Poll/Reuters survey found.

Imagine Nicholas screaming upside down..... =)
